Intel Lunar Lake CPU teased: 8-core, 8-thread at 2.8GHz boost benchmarked

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 18, 2024 8:37 PM CST

Intel's next-gen Lunar Lake CPU has been leaked, showing off an 8-core, 8-thread configuration with cache sizes, and we now have a CPU boost number to scope out. Check it out:

Intel Lunar Lake CPU teased: 8-core, 8-thread at 2.8GHz boost benchmarked

The next-gen Intel Lunar Lake CPUs will be for ultra-low mobile power systems, which will succeed the current-gen Core Ultra 100U "Meteor Lake" CPUs that we've seen deployed since CES 2024 earlier this year. Intel will have its Arrow Lake CPUs hitting the desktop processor market later this year, succeeding the Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs that make up the 14th Gen Core CPU family, while Lunar Lake will enter the low-power laptop market.

The new leak on Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake CPUs sees it in A1 stepping form, with 8 cores and 8 threads (lacking Hyper-Threading), which is something that the Arrow Lake CPU family will also reportedly see (a lack of HT). We see CPU cache sizes here, with 836KB of L1 cache (112KB per P-Core, 96KB per E-Core), 14MB of L2 cache (2.5MB per P-Core, 4MB per four E-Cores), and 12MB of L3 cache in total.

Intel's next-gen Lunar Lake Xe2 GPU architecture rumored to get adaptive sharpening filter

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 14, 2024 5:31 PM CST

Intel has teased the development of a new technology that will be featured in its next-gen Lunar Lake mobile CPU architecture, with new sharpening filters that are smarter than existing filters.

Intel's next-gen Lunar Lake Xe2 GPU architecture rumored to get adaptive sharpening filter

The new approach would provide developers and gamers with the ability to tweak the sharpening effect on a per-region basis instead of applying sharpening to the entire image. Intel wants to focus on specific areas inside of the frame that wouldn't otherwise benefit from additional sharpening.

You don't want to oversharpen areas that don't require it, like backgrounds, for example, where this new sharpening filter would make games -- and even other apps -- have better image quality. An Intel engineer explained that adaptive sharpening won't just apply to games but to images and video software being run inside the operating system.

Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 might have upgraded 'Pegasus' CPU cores

Anthony Garreffa | Feb 14, 2024 4:50 PM CST

Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC reportedly shares the same CPU cluster, but the new Gen5 chips will sport new "Pegasus" CPU cores.

Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 might have upgraded 'Pegasus' CPU cores

The latest rumors on Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 are coming from @For_Ataraxia on X, who says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 features custom "Phoenix" cores, but the new Gen 5 chip will have upgraded "Pegasus" cores. Both of the SoCs will keep the same 2+6 CPU cluster, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 featuring performance cores only and possibly up to 4.0GHz speeds.

We should expect Qualcomm to continue using just performance cores for its upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, with another leaker saying that both of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Gen 5 chips will have the same "Slice" GPU architecture. These are just leaks, and things can change at a whim... Qualcomm might go in a different direction with its GPU, especially if it wants to better fight the likes of Apple and Samsung in future SoC designs.

AMD Zen 5 CPUs rumored to offer 'totally ludicrous' performance boost to the tune of 30%

Darren Allan | Feb 12, 2024 9:19 AM CST

AMD's Zen 5 processors will boast "totally ludicrous" performance gains, or that's the fresh claim from a regular YouTube leaker.

AMD Zen 5 CPUs rumored to offer 'totally ludicrous' performance boost to the tune of 30%

This is RedGamingTech (RGT) who recently aired a leak on Zen 5 and now has a follow-up video, backing up those claims, and adding some further details.

As RGT noted before, the leaker is hearing from multiple sources - trusted ones apparently - that previous leakage suggesting 15% IPC gains with Zen 5 were actually underselling the silicon. (Note that this is the kind of level Moore's Law is Dead - MLID for short, another YouTube leaker - is claiming Zen 5 will deliver, or maybe a touch more).
